i just read the local news from home, since i'm still in florida until this afternoon. apparently there was a huge fire at vcu yesterday. this is an incredible story. the fire leapt across a 6-lane divided road, causing fires at some 20 buildings, some of them in other areas of town (even crossing I-95) caused by burning embers falling from the sky. fortunately there was only one casualty, considering the magnitude of this disaster. it's so sad to see this happen, especially on broad street where vcu has been building a lot and bringing new life to this major street that is like the central artery in the life of richmond. i hope they will be able to recover quickly and re-build the planned student housing.
